Fishies on Friday

Hey Everyone!
Wow, first I gotta bark that I'm so incredibly excited to announce that Ruby has agreed to be my date for Blogville Date Day on 5-19-14!   WOOOHOOOO    She's such a sweetie and Angel Pip said it was a-o-kay for us to have a wonderful date together.     I'm so grateful to all of the lovely ladies who asked to be in the drawing and I thank all of you for being interested in little-ole-me.   I hope all of you find amazing dates for our event.    Don't forget to post that day and comment here so that you will be entered in the drawing for a pawesome $20 prize to be sent to the winner anywhere in the whole wide Blogville world.

Okay, so about the FISHIES!      Thought I forgot, huh.  BOL
So, I have mentioned before that my Mom works for the State of Pennsylvania.  Yes, she does.   Well, she heard that the PA Fish Commission was having an open house near my territory, so she and Dad went to check out the action.    OMD it was a blast!

They do a project at this lake to increase the walleye population.    That's a fish!    So, they net up a ginormous number of the adults, then they milk them.    THEY REALLY DO!    SEE:

They take the fish and press on their bellies so the eggs all get collected in these pans.

First the females, then the males.    Once the eggs and sperm are together, then the pour them into these buckets:

and the peeps stir them for awhile using big turkey feathers!    REALLY!    That's so the eggs and sperm all get mixed together for fertilizing, but won't stick together in clumps.   That would kill the eggs.   The turkey feathers are perfect for stirring without hurting the eggs.    After a safe amount of time, the eggs go in jars.

After the eggs hatch, the fry are kept safe until they are big enough to be released into the lake.

Cool huh?!?

There was more to see that day, and if you come back tomorrow, I'll show you what else my peeps saw there!

Grr and a Fishie Woof,
Sarge, Nature Lover

BTW:  Here are a few more badges for Date Day in case you'd like one.  BOL

Turkey feathers! Who'd a thought. Maybe Pawpaw Pantslegs can donate some of his!

That's very interesting. We just have mostly feral carp that wreck our river. Glad they're stocking PA waterways.

XXXOOO Bella & Roxy

We like those fry when they're a bit bigger and fried.

you know walleye is the ONLY fresh water fish mom has ever liked. When her and dad in Minnesota she got to try it and then every year during the season "Culvers" restaurants use to have it on their menu and mom would go crazy for it
