Wow, here it is already, the second day of Give Us The Bird! In case you missed it, check yesterday's post for songbirds and fancy-pants birds.
DON'T FORGET THOSE SPEAKERS...FUN TUNES TO HEAR!!
Okay, here's my Woodpecker post!
This is a youngster Red-Bellied Woodpecker.
And here's the Daddy adult.
Cute little Downy Woodpecker. He's a regular at our feeders.
Here's a Downy in the snow!
NOW: CHECK THIS GUY OUT!
This is a huge Pileated Woodpecker!
He's a giant. They grow to 16-20 inches tall.
He worked for hours on this tree in my side yard.
Look at that hole he pounded out.
Then there was the amazing day that two of these big boys showed up and worked as a team to jackhammer all over this log!
Blogsurf on backwards to my 4-6-11 post to see the video of these two in action!
There you go...day two of Give Us The Bird! I hope you enjoyed it and I'll be looking forward to seeing all of your posts. Tune in tomorrow for my artsy, craftsy birdie post.

Wow, your blog's really going to the birds! He he he. I love it.
ReplyDeleteoh so cool! we've never seen a woodpecker before!! i like the ones that have the little bit of red on top of their heads. we live in the desert and have plenty of roadrunners and quail, but those are hard to capture on camera, we're more likely to catch a jack rabbit with our camera. it's still fun to pawticipate in this event, and we posted our second day pic. ;)
